Oh my heck y’all! I never in a million years would have thought our home would be totally transformed with just a little paint. So, I just wanted to share with you how to wake up your home exterior with paint.
OK let’s start from the very beginning. When my husband and I came out to Tucker Hill to look for a home, this red brick house was the first one we saw.
My comment to my husband was “I hate that it is red brick”. Now this is not to say that I hate red brick in general, I just don’t really care for red brick with a gray mortar and this house had the red brick with a gray mortar.
We went ahead and went inside to look at the house. Well, of course, we fell in love with the interior. It had a lovely open concept living, dining and kitchen area which is what we always said we wanted. Because of my lack of love for the red brick, we went and looked at, I think, about 4 other homes in the neighborhood. Well, all the other homes had a lovely brick but not the open concept we liked.
So, guess what?
We ended up back to this house with the red brick. We walked in again and still felt absolute love for the interior! So, I told my husband “I sure hope we can paint the brick and then the house will be perfect.”
Fast forward a couple of weeks after we closed on the home and I submitted a request to the homeowners association to paint the brick. My first response from the homeowners association was that I needed to change the color of the trim but they accepted the alabaster white as the main color of the brick. Well, the color they suggested was not my favorite nor did it really fall into the theme I was going for for our home. Thankfully, I submitted an appeal and the appeal was approved so, I was able to use the two colors that I had originally submitted to use.
Sherwin Williams Alabaster White for brick and Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black for the trim and shutters. We used Resilience latex paint.
So, I am very thankful that they trusted my instincts. Aren’t you?
The thing I loved about the color Alabaster was that it was a creamy white without being too bright and not really pulling any yellow. My worst fear was that it would be painted and have a yellow tinge and that would drive me crazy. Turns out, after they painted, Alabaster is literally the perfect white. As far as the trim I knew I wanted it to be as close to a true black as it could be to give that modern farmhouse feel. Tricorn black accomplishes that goal perfectly. The contrast between the Alabaster and the Tricorn black is simply perfection.
Onto the painting company, I talked with many of my local blogger friends that have either recently painted or are thinking of painting and heard about CertaPro Painters. Anytime you are doing a huge job like this it’s always a risk when you’ve never used a company before. Let me tell you what, CertaPro Far North Dallas is simply the best painting company I have ever used in my life!! And I have used many! Matt was our sales rep and he was amazing! He was very helpful from the very beginning to the end. The crew that we used was headed up by a guy named Jose. He and his crew were so meticulous about every little detail!! It was as if they were artists with a blank canvas (that just happened to be my home). LOL
They were able to complete the house in five days which I thought was super fast. I felt so sorry for them because it just happened to be the hottest week we’ve had so far here in Texas. Every day they were working 11 to 12 hours a day in 100+ degree heat. I kept going out there and asking them if they needed a Gatorade. I felt so bad and I didn’t want anybody passing out on me.
Well onto the painting, day one included mostly priming and prepping the house. This is the moment where it got very real for me. Even though the primer was a bright white it was starting to give me an idea of what my home was going to be looking like. I cannot tell you how excited I was at the end of Monday, knowing my home was going to be totally transformed just by simply painting it.
Day two they were on to taping down everything and actually started painting the Alabaster white.
By day three you could truly start seeing the transformation. They had over half of the house painted.
Day four began with them starting to paint the Tricorn black on the trim and downspouts. Now it had truly sit in that we were changing the total look of our home. And let me tell you, we were absolutely in love!
Day five they were finishing everything up doing touchups, and this is also the day that they painted the shutters. At the end of day five the house was complete. The painting had stopped and our home was now our dream home. The white and black contrast made this home totally different.
So let’s do a before and after. To me, that is the best time and the best way to see where the changes have truly occurred. Then, let’s wake up YOUR home exterior with paint! WANNA?
