Super Easy DIY Painted Accent Wall
Since we moved into our new home in June, I have wanted to create some sort of accent wall in our son’s room. I didn’t want it to be too elaborate and flashy since he is a simple young man. So, I decided to create a super easy DIY painted accent wall using Rust-Oleum’s new line called Studio Color Advanced Paint+Primer. What drew me to this line is that the paints are already pre-mixed making it super easy to walk in, grab your color and be on your way. I also like that it is a paint and primer in one, again making my life super easy. And y’all know I’m all about easy. Participating Walmart stores carry 18 premixed colors for the interior and 6 for the exterior and they ship nationally. I like the fact that they have 8×8 swatches of the color that you can stick on your wall and see how it will look in your space.
This is a sponsored post but all of the opinions are my own.
So, when I was able to get to the store and look at the paints, I decided to go with the flat black for the bottom of the wall and Smooth Pebbles for the top of the wall, also in a flat sheen. Can I just reiterate how easy it was to pick my colors and just walk out, no waiting forever at the paint counter? Rust-Oleum gets bonus points for that genius idea!
I started by taping off the area I was going to paint. I put a piece of tape to divide the two colors I would be painting and to show me where the 1×6 board would be going.
I am creating a little character on the wall by adding a 1×6″ board across so I also need to get that stained before the painting started.
Once I got the board stained, I started painting the bottom with the flat black paint. I did two coats because I was going from a white wall to a dark wall. This Studio Color paint covers so well.
Once I finished the bottom of the wall, I started painting the top of the wall with the Studio Color Smooth Pebbles. It is such a beautiful gray.
After I let the paint dry, I added the 1×6 that I had stained earlier. I used a cedar color stain and I love how it looked.
I truly cannot believe how easy it was to give my son’s room a little character. I am so glad I was able to use the Rust-Oleum Studio Color Paint+Primer line.
