If you are looking for tools to make you a successful blogger, you have come to the right place. I want to share 9 effective reasons bloggers create content calendars and why you should as well.

First, let’s dive in to what a content calendar is for all of you that may not know. A content calendar is a tool you use to schedule your content across different social media platforms.

To start, you need to decide if your content calendar is going to be digital or paper. I am old fashioned so I like all of my content to be hand-written. Here is the calendar I picked out and I LOVE it! It has big squares which helps me a ton! I am also a fan of colorful things so this was perfect!

There are many resources to choose from if you are looking for a digital content calendar. Here is one I really liked. Like I said, I am just a fan of having physical paper to see everything laid out.

So, let’s dive into the why. Why do you want to create a content calendar? Let’s go over the 9 effective reasons bloggers create content calendars.

  • GETS YOU ORGANIZED- creating a content calendar helps get all your thoughts out onto paper and gets you organized for the month. I typically only do a month in advance. I am working on trying to at least get two months ahead. I’m a work in progress.

  • HELPS YOU AVOID WRITER’S BLOCK– I used to just write whatever I was feeling that day and it stressed me out. I had no real plan. Somedays, I sat there at the computer and couldn’t thing of anything to write. So, you know what I did….I didn’t write. A wasted day all because I had writer’s block. Well, that would sometimes turn into a wasted week or month.

  • HELPS YOU STAY ON TRACK-when using a content calendar, you already know what you are going to be writing about at least a month in advance. Then, you can just add in any brand collaborations you get as the weeks progress. I try to keep Tuesdays open for my brand collabs, unless the brand has a specific day in mind.

  • HELPS WITH GOAL SETTING-Benjamin Franklin supposedly once said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” I am true believer in that! I see it first hand in my daily life. If I don’t have a plan for my day, I quickly look at my watch and I have wasted half of my day looking at social media, etc… Set goals for your blog. Where do you see it one week from now, one month from now, one year from now? If you don’t set you goals, you won’t reach them.

  • HELPS WITH CONSISTENCY- When you are blogging on a schedule, it trains your readers to know when to look out for material from you. It is good to also let your followers know when you post. For example, if you don’t post on the weekends, let your followers know that so they aren’t expecting anything those days. I post on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Now, I will say, it is not 100% science. Some days things happen and the post does not happen. Such is life! But I do try to make that the exception not the rule.

  • BUILDS AUTHORITY AND RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR READERS- The more you write about certain subjects, the more your readers are likely to seek you out when looking for that subject. For example, I am a home decor blogger so that is mostly what I write about. No one is going to come to my site to find out about the latest travel trends. Thank goodness! But I do want to have some knowledge on how to decorate and style your home. If I write 2-3 posts a week about home decor, I am setting myself up as an authority on that subject.

  • ENCOURAGES MORE VARIETY OF CONTENT- When you have things planned out on a content calendar, it helps you create a good variety of content. For me, Mondays and Wednesdays are informative like a recipe or styling tips for your home. Thursdays are for weekly sales and Saturdays are geared toward inspirational posts. Again, that doesn’t mean that I am totally locked into this, but it does help with planning ahead.

  • HELPS TRACK PERFORMANCE BETTER– By creating a content calendar, you can start to see patterns in your blog performance. You can tell which types of posts do better than others. Then you can plan accordingly. If your content is all over the board, it is hard to get a good sense of what is making your blog successful.

  • CREATES AUDIENCE INTERESTS– Having a content calendar allows you to connect on a deeper level with your readers. You can interact more easily and gauge the interests of the reader. Take polls and ask questions in your posts. When you plan content out, you can answer those questions in a way that makes the reader feel connected to you. And that is really what its all about right, creating that relationship so they want to keep coming back.

I hope these 9 effective reasons bloggers create content calendars were helpful. I want to be a resource for you as you grow your blog. I know I asked a million questions (and still do) to those people in my circle with more knowledge than me. It is an ever evolving business and I think that is what makes it so fun. Have a great day friends!
